Lincoln Day Dinner

February 26 @ 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, Yeonmi Park is unable to join us as our Keynote Speaker at our DCRP Lincoln Day dinner on Saturday, Feb 26, 2022 due to a scheduling conflict. We hope to be able to host her in the near future.

We are excited to announce that we have been fortunate enough to be able to secure another amazing Keynote Speaker for our event. Sgt. 1st class John Wayne Walding (Ret.) served for 12 years in the U.S. Army as a Green Beret, with 7 years in the prestigious 3rd Special Forces Group. He was also awarded a Bronze Star, Silver Star and Purple Heart for his valor and bravery.

John Wayne has been deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. During the battle of Shok Valley in Afghanistan, he lost his right leg to enemy sniper fire. While wounded, he continued to fight for four more hours ultimately becoming unconscious and flown out to Germany where he woke up and realized his leg was amputated.

He has never let these injuries slow him down. He attended Special Forces Sniper School and was the first amputee to become a Green Beret sniper. He has also competed in the 2009 Boston Marathon where he finished 4th in the handcrank division and 2010 New York Marathon, where he finished in the top 10. He also ran the 2010 Army 10 miler, the 2016 Dallas Half Marathon, and one of the hardest marathon routes in the world, the Baatan Death March (which also required him to carry a 45-pound backpack).

During the recent Afghanistan withdrawal, John Wayne worked tirelessly to get his friends who were former Afghan interpreters, out of that country as the Taliban will kill any known to be friendly to the U.S.

Today, John Wayne and his wife Amy, live in Texas with their four children. He also travels the country to speak about leadership, excellence and overcoming adversity.
